Visited our water facilities in Johor for the first time today. Wanted to see for myself the Linggiu Reservoir (http://bit.ly/PE8xqn) built in the 1990s, and the Johor River Water Works (http://bit.ly/OLdQCT) near Kota Tinggi. PUB built and managed these facilities.
The Linggiu Reservoir regulates the flow of the Johor River. In dry periods PUB releases more water from the reservoir into the Johor River, so that it can still draw 250 million gallons of water per day, as provided for under our 1962 Water Agreement with Johor.
PUB has quietly done a great job supplying Singapore with enough water from our four taps: the Johor River, our Singapore reservoirs, desalination and NEWater. But water will always be a precious commodity and a strategic resource for Singapore. We must use it with care and conserve where we can. – LHL
